On December 4, 2013, Trooper Paul Woodside received from WSP Chief John Batiste, the Karl Culbertson Pipeline/Interdiction Instructor of the Year Award by the El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC). This national award comes from Woodside’s hard work and success teaching the Pipeline Interdiction Course nationally for the Drug Interdiction Assistance Program through the U.S. Department of Transportation.
An example of Woodside’s training success happened this year when he was teaching the Pipeline Interdiction course in Virginia. During the end of the course emphasis with his students, a commercial vehicle was netted during a cold stop with officers seizing multi-million dollars worth of drugs.
When Woodside is not doing his normal duties as a Narcotics K-9 Handler, he teaches the Serious Highway Crime Apprehension Team Basic Course for our troopers and other local agencies.
