On August 18th, Carlos and Angel Callejas will be the Washington State Patrol’s (WSP) representative at the Washington State’s Criminal Justice Training Commission‘s (CJTC) “Chief for a Day” event!
That’s right. In a little over a month, Carlos and Angel will become WSP Co-Chiefs for an entire day!
According to the CJTC’s website, the “Chief for a Day” event is “in partnership with local law enforcement agencies and hospitals” adding it “is about celebrating the lives of children who have been diagnosed with a chronic illness. It is also a celebration of life for us all.”
Because the actual event isn’t until August, the WSP wanted to give Carlos and Angel a small taste of what it’s like to be Chief. So, on June 28, Troopers picked up Carlos, Angel, their mom and baby sister from their home in Des Moines and drove them in Patrol cars all the way to the Capitol Campus in Olympia.
They spent the day meeting with WSP Chief John Batiste, touring the Governor’s mansion, dining at one of Olympia’s best cafes, and even got to “fly” one of the WSP’s airplanes! Well, they “flew” in a simulator.
We couldn’t be more excited for their big day in August. We invite you all to come join us and dozens of 0ther law enforcement agencies in celebrating some of the state’s greatest Little Chiefs.
