Summary: The Washington State Patrol, Castle Rock Police Department, and Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Departments attended the high school graduation of Michael Ericson. Michael is the son of California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Ericson, who was badly injured when a vehicle ran him over in April. Trooper Ericson was not stable enough to travel to his son’s graduation in Castle Rock so the three agencies showed up to support Michael and the CHP.
Quotes: “As Michael received his diploma, he shot a large smile our way when he saw the photograph of his dad.” – WSP Trooper Will Finn
Like many seniors, Michael Ericson was excited for his upcoming graduation, however one thing was going to be missing: His dad.
Michael is the son of California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Ericson, who was badly injured after a vehicle ran him over in April. Although Officer Ericson is making progress toward recovery, he was not in stable enough condition to travel for his son’s high school graduation.
But when Michael’s graduation day finally arrived, there was more than just a diploma waiting for him.
Washington State Patrol (WSP) Troopers, Castle Rock Police Officers, and Officers from the Cowlitz County Sheriff Office were in the crowd cheering and waving a congratulatory banner/picture of Michael’s father as he walked across the stage.
Earlier this month the CHP contacted the WSP regarding Michael’s upcoming graduation and asked if we could help them celebrate from a few states away. WSP Trooper Will Finn who attended the event said “as Michael received his diploma, he shot a large smile our way when he saw the picture of his dad.”
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Michael was presented with goodie bags as well as a Washington State Patrol Chief’s Coin. Michael is headed off to the military later this year.
The Washington State Patrol was honored to take part in such a special event and help celebrate both CHP Officer Ericson and his son on that special day.
