On March 6, 2017, 48 cadets began their first day of Arming at the Washington State Patrol Academy in Shelton.

The seven weeks of training involves physical workouts, skill set development, defensive tactic coaching and firearms training. After successfully completing their arming training, these Trooper Cadets will enter 16 weeks of Trooper Basic training before becoming official Washington State Patrol Troopers.
